“Marias”, by Tânia Dinis, “A História do Futebol Esteve Aqui”, by José Magro, “Florescência – Infinito Infinito”, by Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela, “Volta” by Pedro Lino and “A Emancipação de Mimi” by Marcelo Pereira are the five projects selected in the 2nd edition of the Filmaporto Grants.
The Grants, which are worth 20,000 euros to each project, were awarded through a competition judged by Ana Moreira (actor and artist), Joana Gusmão (producer and programmer) and Samuel Barbosa (film director and producer).
The annual programme seeks to stimulate the production of films made entirely in Porto, and to promote the employability and engagement of technicians and businesses linked to the audiovisual sector in the city. The competition has two modalities aimed at different candidates: the Neves Grants is for artists, directors and producers living in the council area of Porto, while the Pascaud Grants is destined for candidates living outside the city. In both modalities, 60% of the team must live in Porto for at least two years.
The Neves and Pascaud Grants were named after two unique figures in the city’s history: António Neves and Edmond Pascaud, founders of Neves & Pascaud, the first company to screen films to the public in Porto, and owners of auditoriums including Cinema Batalha and Salão Trindade.
