Applications are now open for the 2nd edition of the Filmaporto grants, which provide funding support for films produced entirely in Porto. Five grants, worth 20,000 euros each, will be awarded by a competition jury to projects of fiction, documentary or animation cinema, series, experimental cinema or video-essays. Applications may be submitted until 6 p.m. on June 3. The regulations are available here.
The competition provides two types of grants, aimed at different groups of candidates. Artists, directors and producers resident in the municipality of Porto can apply for the Neves grants, while the Pascaud grants are intended for candidates who reside outside the city. In both categories, 60% of the team must be resident in Porto for at least two years. The applications will be evaluated by a jury comprised by Ana Moreira (actress and visual artist), Joana Gusmão (producer and programmer) and Samuel Barbosa (film director and producer).
The Neves and Pascaud grants have been named in honour of two unique personalities from Porto: António Neves and Edmond Pascaud, the founders of Neves & Pascaud, the first company to present films to the public in Porto and owner of cinemas such as Cinema Batalha and Salão Trindade. The support programme aims to stimulate the creation of films produced in Porto and promote the hiring of technicians and companies in the city linked to the audiovisual sector.
